How to Ensure Your Roses Are Free of Pests

How to Ensure Your Roses Are Free of Pests

Let’s be honest, no matter how beautiful your rose garden is, it is not safe from being infested by pests. It is indeed annoying to see your precious flowers being eaten up by pests – all your time and effort to keep your garden beautiful are being put into waste.
You may keep an eye on your garden to monitor pests but you can only do so much if you don’t do anything about it – they will not leave your garden not unless you take action. Pests like snails, slugs, earwigs, aphids, and beetles love healthy plants and soil, and they can become a big problem if they start to infest your garden. However, fret not because there are a lot of ways on how you can effectively get rid of them without spending too much money. You may go for organic techniques or use pest control techniques, or both.
Use apple cider vinegar and banana peel. Apple cider vinegar works wonders, and it can also be used to eliminate insects around your garden. Place a cup of apple cider vinegar into a soda bottle, mix it with a cup sugar, a banana peel sliced into bits and pieces, and a cup of cold water. Shake the mixture, and tie the soda bottle to a low tree branch or just place it on the ground. The mixture will be toxic to the pests, making your garden pest-free.
Use white vinegar to eliminate mealy bugs. Mealy bugs are common garden pests, and one of the best ways to get rid of them is to use white vinegar. Soak pieces of cotton buds in white vinegar and dab the bugs with them. White vinegar is toxic to these bugs so they can be easily eliminated using this simple but effective technique.
Agood way to eliminate pest snails in your garden is by sprinkling salt into them. The salt will suck up the water in their body, dehydrating them. Since snails need water in their body to live, once they get dehydrated, they will die, saving your garden from further infestation. Use wet paper to exterminate earwigs. Earwigs are among the most common pests found in gardens, and they can become a big problem once they grow in number.
An organic way to eliminate these pesky pests is to roll up a wet newspaper and make it intact by putting rubber band around it, and then put it in the area where you see earwigs. Leave the paper overnight, and then the next morning, you should see earwigs there. Dispose the paper and repeat the process until all the earwigs are gone.
Use companion plants to get rid of bugs. Another way to eliminate bugs in your garden is by planting companion plants that are aromatic. You may choose from basil, tansy, marigolds, and sage. Make sure to place these plants near your most precious garden plants so the bugs will stop infesting them. Aside from these companion plants are good in deterring pests, they can also make your garden look fuller.
These are just some of the many organic and cost-efficient ways to eliminate pests in your rose garden. However, if all of these natural techniques do not work, you can always go for pest control methods. Sprayers are usually found in garden stores, and they should not cost you so much. The good thing about these sprayers is that they are effective and eco-friendly. At the end of the day, pests are not your best friends, so you would want to control them and keep them away from your roses.
